How to Save Money on Your Kitchen Renovation

Kitchen Renovations can get expensive, between materials, appliances, and labor, the cost can definitely add up, which makes it hard to stick to a strict budget. We all know the struggle, but have no fear, you can still get the kitchen you’ve been dreaming of, it’s just going to take a little extra effort. Keep reading for a few recommendations to lower the cost of your kitchen renovation.

Remove The Old Cabinets Yourself

Removing the old cabinets isn’t that difficult, and anyone with basic hardware skills can get the job done with enough patience and determination. The amount you would have spent clearing out the old cabinets can be put towards the cost of the new cabinets, so you end up with a better upgrade than you had planned. Make sure to remove any fixtures or hardware before taking down the main compartments. Of course, this process is a little easier if you’re planning to trash the cabinets afterwards, but if you are planning to sell or donate them, make sure to go easy on the wood or composite surfaces to avoid any ugly blemishes.

Use a Dumpster to Clear the Debris

Now that you’ve taken care of the cabinets, there’s bound to be a fair bit of debris left over. Rather than hiring a junk removal service, you can save money by doing a short term dumpster rental. Chances are that for just a kitchen you probably won’t need a very large one, and because you’ll only need it for a few days the costs should be quite affordable.

Prep The Kitchen for Renovation

While you’ve got the dumpster, it’s a great time to prep the kitchen in any other way you can before the contractors come in. Depending on how much work you’re having done, you might want to strip out countertops, flooring, or utilities. But make sure that whatever you end up tossing you’ll have replaced before too long. Getting an exact quote before you start stripping your kitchen is extremely important, and we don’t recommend stripping it without a solid plan.
