What Can Be Put in a Rental Dumpster

As it stands, you cannot simply throw any and everything you desire in a rental dumpster. There are particular rules that you must follow, as you would when disposing of waste in the trash can. The guidelines that you must adhere to when using a rented dumpster are largely implemented for environmental purposes. Improper disposal of waste can be hazardous to both humans and animals. Furthermore, there are also state and local regulations that you must keep in mind when disposing of waste. You need to understand the kind of waste that can and cannot be put in a rental dumpster to be on the safe side. Most nonhazardous waste is generally permitted. Here’s a list to keep in mind.

Furniture

Just about every type of furniture is allowed in rental dumpsters, including tables, couches, chairs, dressers, etc. Not all locations allow upholstered furniture and mattresses to be dumped in landfills. In some locations that permit upholstered furniture and mattresses, customers may have to pay additional fees depending on local regulations. Your dumpster rental provider can inform you of the types of furniture that’s allowed in a dumpster.

Appliances

In general, most typical household appliances, like refrigerators, AC units, stoves, washers, and dryers are allowed to be disposed of in a dumpster. However, before dumping, all hazardous fluids and components, for example, freon, must be removed prior to disposal. It’s best to hire a professional appliance repair specialist or a similar professional to get rid of a freon-containing appliance.

Electronics

Electronic wastes, like TVs, printers, computers, etc., are usually accepted in rental dumpsters. However, in the instance that you have an office cleanout of large quantities of electronics for disposal, you may be required to recycle them as e-waste. An additional charge is commonly applied per item for recycling fees. Some localities strictly prohibit electronics in dumpsters.

Yard Waste

Typical yard waste, like branches, grass, trees, brush, plus other green waste is permitted in most rental dumpsters. Area regulation generally determines if a dumpster company will accept yard waste. While some areas allow a dumpster to be filled to maximum capacity, others place limits on the amount of green waste you can send to a landfill.

Construction Debris

Most dumpster companies allow heavy construction debris, like brick, concrete, stone, and asphalt. However, it is a requirement by some companies to use specific dumpsters designated for heavy materials because of their weight. Roofing shingle disposal may carry additional fees in some locations.  Renovation debris, like drywall, wooden materials, siding, among others are allowed in rental dumpsters.

Other

Other non-organic wastes that are permitted in a rental dumpster include curtains and carpeting, toys, old documents, and cardboard.

When it comes to what can be put in a rental dumpster, most nonhazardous materials are allowed. Be sure to know local regulations so that you can be in compliance when disposing of your waste. Safe dumping is the best dumping. Contact your local dumpster rental company to select the right size dumpster for your disposal job.
