Tips to Consider When Renting A Dumpster

Finally ready to give your house the hefty cleanse it needs? Chances are you’re going to be throwing out a lot of old belongings, and you’ll need somewhere to dispose of it. For a cleanout this big, a trash can simply won’t make the cut. If you’re serious about this cleanout, you’re probably going to need to rent a roll off dumpster. This will encourage you to throw things away, and make your job easier! If you’re skeptical about renting a dumpster because you don’t want to damage your property, don’t worry; At Clifford Containers, we take the safety and appearance of your yard into full consideration when dropping off and picking up our dumpsters. Here’s what you can do to help prepare, and avoid any damage.

Choosing A Location

You’re going to want to make the most of your time with your dumpster, so figure out prior to purchase where to set the dumpster up. It’s going to be heavy, so you should opt for a hard, level surface. Concrete will normally do the trick so your driveway will likely be your best bet. Make sure you don’t block anything, such as the garage that you’ll need to get in and out of, and that you leave enough room to easily navigate around the dumpster.

Form a Clear Path

The path you plan to use most frequently when navigating to and from your dumpster should be cleared of any obstacles. You don’t want to walk on gardens or ruin your uniform lawn, so if you’re forced to walk through your yard, lay down some plywood where you plan to walk to reduce obstruction.

Don’t Throw in Dangerous Liquids/Items

These dumpsters will be plentiful strong but chemicals or flammable liquids should never be thrown in a dumpster. Your city has waste collection regulations as well that need to be considered. Unintentionally mixing liquids from gasoline to cleaning sprays to automobile oils can create a dangerous situation in your driveway. Be sure to read up on what can and can’t be thrown in a dumpster, first!

Don’t Overflow Your Dumpster

The door on the top needs to be able to fully close with no risk of leaking or spilling. Stop once your trash is level with the top since a tarp will be placed over the dumpster prior to it being taken away. If you’re unsure which size dumpster will be best for your project, one of our knowledgable staff members will be able to guide you in the right direction.

Clean up the ground After

Grab your handy dandy broom and sweep up any leftover trash. Even if your driveway looks clean, you should take the extra precaution, since small sharp pieces of material may be left that could damage your car or your feet. Even animals may accidentally consume leftover waste. Protect yourself and your family by taking this extra step!
