How to Prepare For a Dumpster Delivery

It’s a good idea to get the spot you plan to have the dumpster situated ready before delivery. It can save time and trouble when the driver shows up to drop it off. This is not a complicated or time-consuming thing to do, and it will improve the likelihood that the whole process is problem-free. The dumpster rental preparation process is pretty manageable, and it starts when first booking the dumpster via the phone or online. Ask the dumpster rental service if your intended placement location is the right choice.

Some of the places you may not be able to put a dumpster include:

  • On a steep hill
  • On soft or sandy surfaces
  • Side of a city street

These are just several examples, but reason enough to recognize the importance of figuring out dumpster placement ahead of time when booking the dumpster. Ideally, a hard, flat surface is best. This would involve an asphalt or concrete driveway or parking lot. Perfect conditions aren’t always possible, so it’s best to handle this with your dumpster rental provider before delivery.

Placement on soft surfaces, such as sand, is reasonable if the right prep work is done in advance. This could include putting plywood on the ground, or other related solutions, to compensate for the less-than-ideal dumpster placement conditions.

Clean and clear out obstructions

Ultimately, the best way to prepare for the dumpster’s delivery is to make it as simple as possible for the truck driver to make the drop-off. Remove everything from the designated area so that the driver can easily get where they need to in order to place the dumpster.

Preventing dumpster damage

Getting rid of obstructions around where the dumpster will be sitting will save you a lot of trouble. Damage can happen if the dumpster truck driver has to navigate around a bunch of obstacles. Another good way to stop damage to the surface of the driveway or the street is to place boards underneath where the dumpster would touch the ground. Placing plywood or boards under the dumpster can stop it from ruining your driveway. Make sure to plan to put down the plywood before the driver and dumpster arrive at your home. The plywood will probably be damaged, but you’d rather have that than your driveway ruined.
